Week 6: Watercolor

The theme of this week was "Exploring and Analyzing Architecture Through Different Mediums." This week we learned about a different way to represent and capture architecture. A way to help the viewer visualize what the building may look like. This is crucial in helping us to learn new skills. By learning new skills it enables us to analyze, think, and explore in many different ways. Throughout the week many of us felt frustrated learning a new skill that most of us were unfamiliar with. By the end of the week most us of felt happy that we had gained a new tool that we could apply to our work in the future. We felt we had gone beyond the typical requirements (plan, section, elevation) of an architect and were able to capture architecture and communicate our drawings visually. We noticed by the end of the week that each artist had there own technique of watercoloring!

In the middle of the week we presented our Derive projects. The derive consisted of students taking a journey, recording that journey (by means of sketching, photographing, collecting artifacts, etc.)  and then presenting their visual record of their journey to the class. We were able to use any medium to present our project.

As the end of the week came we did our final watercoloring with Tom and Eric by Castel San'Angelo. After completing our paintings we had a review back in studio of everyones work for the day. This was important because it helped us see which paintings communicated well visually. By pinning all the paintings up we were also able to see our own improvements in the new skill we had learned, that taught us another medium to capture architecture.
