Although, spring break is a time to relax and recharge your batteries. It was also a time to reflect on what we have learned and on the world around us. Berlin, Prague, Helsinki, Paris and London were just some of the places students went to explore in greater depth. After just finishing the housing project, many people choose to look at different housing complexes. We tried to use the knowledge we learned to understand how architects create different design solutions. John Abowd went to Villa Savoye, by Le Corbusier, and came back with a greater appreciation and understanding of why Le Corbusier designed the building the way he did. Kara Borton was able to enjoy the Kamppi mixed housing unit in Helsinki because of the use of light and dark.
The break was a great time to reflect on everything we have learned in the semester up to this point. From experiencing the culture, architecture, and food of Rome we were able to appreciate the cities we saw from a more holistic view.
